Cultural Differences and Conflicts in Chinese American Literature Based on Mother-Daughter Relationship

中西方文化差异巨大,这在当今跨文化交际过程中得以体现。美国华裔文学作为一种特殊的文化载体,其母女两代人的隔阂与冲突最能反映这种文化差异。在同一家庭,当注重谦卑、孝顺的中国传统文化遭遇以"个人主义"、"自由"、"平等"为核心的美国价值观,会产生怎样的误解和冲突,又是怎样获得沟通与和解。本文主要以谭恩美、汤亭亭等华裔女作家的作品为例,以母女关系为切入点,探讨这些作品中所体现的文化差异。

Great differences between Chinese and Western culture are reflected in today＇ s cross-culture communication. The misunderstanding and conflicts between the Chinese-born mothers and the American-born daughters find full expres- sions in Chinese American literature, a special cultural carrier. What will happen in a family when the traditional Chinese culture, attaching importance to modesty and filial piety, meets with the American values stressing ＂individualism＂, ＂freedom＂ and ＂equality＂？ And how will the misunderstanding be cleared and conflicts reconciled？ The thesis mainly analyzes the cultural differences in works by Chinese American writers, like Amy Tan and Maxine Hong Kingston, on the basis of mother-daughter relationship.
