There are some problems in English teaching at colleges and universities, such as outdated content, and delayed information. Latest ideas or up to date vocabulary have rarely been included. Newspapers and magazines have the features of timeliness, broad coverage and containing huge amount of information. In addition, they provide readers with idiomatic English and neologism. Making use of English newspapers and magazines will be helpful in solving problems existing in English teaching, as this will improve students＇ language competence, broaden their horizon and give them information. The teacher need to supervise the reading of English newspapers and magazines, help students to treat various opinions appropriately and make sound judgment independently. Through reading English newspapers and magazines in and out class, students will achieve a lot in many aspects.
