省略是语篇衔接的重要手段之一,英汉两种语言均有省略现象.从句子成分角度而言,可分为主语省略、谓语省略和宾语省略,但这两种语言省略手段的使用不尽相同.造成差异的主要原因是由于英语是综合分析语,重形合,而汉语是典型的分析语,重意合,而这种差异是由中西不同文化造成.在英汉两种语言互译时,要使用正确的翻译策略,使译文表达忠实于原文、合乎语言规范、文辞畅达.

Ellipsis is one of cohesive devices,which occurs in English language as well as in Chinese.From the perspective of sentence structure,a context can omit subject,predicate and object if they have appeared in the preceding sentence.However,there are some similarities and differences between English and Chinese.The cultural differences contribute to such distinctions that English language is synthetic-analytic language which favors hypotaxis,while Chinese is analytic language,which prefers parataxis.Therefore,in order to make the target language faithful and in accord with grammatical rules,translators should apply for the proper strategies.
