Confession, Conscience and the Officialdom Ethics

党的十八大之后,反腐败力度明显加大,被惩治的位高权重的腐败官员数量也明显上升。贪赃枉法者落入法网后,留有许多忏悔录、自白书。这些已公开的文字,部分地表达了他们的悔罪、认罪、畏罪、服罪态度,但与社会所期待的良心发现、决心向善、重新做人,尚有一定距离。本文梳理忏悔的真义,旨在思考戴罪之人该如何讲述权力腐蚀人的完整逻辑和人性回归的心路历程,以此求得社会宽恕。

Since the Eighteenth National Congress of the CPC, the anti-corruption efforts increase significantly, and so does the number of the powerful corrupt officials that has been found guilty and hence punished. When the corrupt officials are arrested, they make confes-sions. Their confessions which are publicly disclosed partly show their penitence. In those confessions, they admit their guilt, and are re-gretful. However, the society is not satisfied with that. It expects the corrupt officials to redeem their conscience and become better ones and then start a new life. This article re-defines the meaning of confession and finds a way for the corrupt officials to obtain the forgive-ness of the society, i.e. to tell their story of how power corrodes them and how to find the journey back to their clear conscience. It is to show the public the way to cure the unhealthy society and eliminate the roots of corruption.
