Objective To explore the feasibility and effect of the patients-based learning method(PTBL) in clinical noviciate of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology. Methods From March to June 2014, 120 clinical noviciates from Department of Clinical in Kunming Medical University were selected, with 60 students from Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology respectively, and divided into experiment group(group A) and control group(group B), with 30 students in each group. Group A were given PTBL method, group B were given conventional teaching method. Each teaching method was evaluated by students through the teaching satisfaction survey, practical skills and theoretical exams' scores, and the results were compared between group A and B. Results The teaching satisfaction survey, practical skills and theoretical scores of ophthalmology exams group A were(90.24 ±6.68),(85.19 ±7.12),(93.66 ±5.10) scores, those of ophthalmology group B were(82.83 ±7.12),(78.95 ±8.56),(90.43 ±6.78) scores; the same items results of otolaryngology group A were(89.63±5.35),(83.44 ±3.67),(92.01 ±5.47) scores and those of otolaryngology group B were(80.68 ±4.12),(77.65±3.46),(88.45±7.64) scores, the resluts of two groups A were higher than those of two gruops B, the differences were statistically significant(P 0.01 or P〈0.05). Conclusion Application of PTBL method in clinical noviciate of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology has certain promotion value.
