The cascade automatic generation control （ AGC） system plays an important role in the optimal dispatch and operation of Xiluodu-Xiangjiaba cascade hydropower stations .The controlling functions , operation mode , algorithm for active power regulation and optimal control strategy of the AGC system are introduced in detail .Importance of the cas-cade AGC system in optimal load distribution and high efficient operation of cascade stations are demonstrated .
