芒福德的另类科学主义

Lewis Mumford's Different Scientism

国内研究界一直比较关注芒福德的技术哲学思想,对他的科学思想相对忽略。国外有学者将其归为反智主义者、反科学者,而这也许是对芒福德的一种误解。芒福德其实是一个"另类"的科学主义者。其科学观主要表现在他反对传统机械科学而崇尚新的生命科学,对技术理性的维护,提出要用新科学的标准指导人类活动;新科学家应该成为现代人走出困境的领路人。

Domestic attention has been paid more to Mumford's philosophy of technology than his scientifi c thought. Some scholars abroad have misunderstood him, taking him as an anti-intellectual, a person who opposes science. Actually Mumford adores science in his own way. He opposes the traditional mechanical science, advocates new 'life science', and defends technological reason. He thinks that human activities should be guided by the standards of the new science and scientists should be the guider for the modern world to go out of his predicament.
