Reforming from the Bottom: to build a historical conception in line with Chinese actuality

怎样从中国的历史实际出发来解释中国的历史进程,一百多年来,尽管中国历史学家做了许多努力,但是我们的许多观念、许多分析框架很多直接来自近代西方,而从西方舶来的过程中,有很多又是经过日本阐发,再从日本转运进来的,后来形成所谓的马克思主义史学又主要是经过苏联、经过共产国际转舶来的。这些新的观念、新的分析框架,推动了中国新史学的形成和发展,却又常常妨碍了对中国历史实际的真正揭示。

For over 100 years,Chinese historians have done a lot to interpret the historical course of China. However,many of our ideas and analytical frameworks are directly borrowed from the west or came through Japan to the west before they reached China. These new concepts and frameworks promoted the formation and development of new historiography,but in the meantime prevented them from revealing the historical actualities of China in its true sense.
