浅析辽宁主要城市的公示语汉英翻译问题——以沈阳、盘锦为例

A Study on Liaoning Urban Public Signs Translation:Taking Shenyang and Panjin as Examples

随着社会发展的突飞猛进,来我国学习、工作、旅游甚至生活的外国友人也随之增加。而近年来沈阳和盘锦这两座城市及其周边地区的不断规划,使得这里的路牌、广告牌甚至旅游景点指示牌等也增加了许多英语公示语的使用。这不但方便了来华的外国友人,更显示了我国对外开放的决心和文化发展的程度。然而,在这类公示语的汉英翻译当中,也出现了不少错误,影响了这两座城市在全国乃至国际上的形象。本文以辽宁省主要城市——沈阳和盘锦为考察对象,通过实地走访研究公示语的汉英翻译的现状、问题及看法。

With the rapid development of the society, more and more foreigners come to our country to work, study and travel. Recently, road signs, public signs and indication boards of tourist sites in English in Shenyang and Panjin are applied in various fields as a result of their new planning programming, which makes convenience for foreigners and shows the determination of opening to the outside world and the degree of our cultural development. However, there appear quite a lot of mistakes in the translation of public signs which will affect the images of the two cities. This thesis, taking Shenyang and Panjin as examples, intends to deal with several aspects of the mistakes appeared in the translation of public signs as well as some suggestions on the status quo.
