养与教的次序——对孔、孟、荀养民教民主张的一种理解

Order of importance concerning the rearing of people and the educating of people: An interpretation of the relevant ideas of Confucius,Mencius and Hsun Tzu

养民和教民问题乃是儒家传统政治思想中的一项重要内容,但针对其先后轻重的关系问题,学者间却各有持论,不一而足。本文取萧公权先生的观念为基本线索,检讨了学者对孔、孟、荀有关养民和教民之先后轻重的相关主张,指出其长短得失,并试图从理论上说明判定教养次序的方法论基础。

The rearing of people and the educating of people are key elements in the Confucian tradition and politics,but which comes first remains disputable. This paper follows Mr. Xao Gongquan's theory and discusses different scholars' understandings of the relevant ideas of Confucius,Mencius and Hsun Tzu. It points out some strengths and weaknesses in the previous studies,and tries to give a theoretical interpretation of the order of importance concerning the rearing of people and the educating of people as well as its methodological foundation.
