美国学界的二十世纪中国城市研究

A Review of American Academic Research on Chinese Cities in the Twentieth Century

从城市化与城市现代化角度对美国学界20世纪中国城市研究进行考察与分析发现,美国学界对1949年前中国城市研究固然不少,然而有关同时期城市化专题研究却非常少,有关1949—1978年间中国城市研究(包括城市化与城市现代化研究)远远不够,而对1978年后中国城市发展研究最多。美国学界相关研究,从学术价值来看视野较为开阔,从现实意义来看又有不少观点对当下中国具有'资治'作用,当然也有一些不足或遗憾,还有进一步研究的空间。

In the perspective of urbanization and city modernization,the study of American academic research on Chinese cities in the 20 th century shows that much was done about Chinese cities before 1949 but scarce about urbanization in the same period. Research related to Chinese cities( including urbanization and city modernization)during 1949—1978 was far from adequate,but most research work was done about city development in China after1978. Academically American researchers have a broad vision,but practically their findings are rather unsatisfactory and regretful although many of their opinions are 'applicable'to Chinese realities.
