＂Human Bondage＂is a classical Bildungsroman written by English writer W.S.Maugham.It contains some basic characteristics of Bildungsroman,such as the linear narrative pattern,the mentors and a series of epiphany decisive to the protagonist＇s growth.Thus,it presents a study of this novel from the perspective of Bildungsroman to demonstrate how the protagonist transfers from one period to another in his life to reach the highpoint of human nature and achieve his mental awakening in the end.
