Objective To investigate the mobilization of CD34+ and CD 133~/CD34~ progenitor cells in peripheral blood of patients with acute hemorrhagic stroke and its significance. Methods Twenty patients with acute hemorrhagic stroke (H group) and 15 healthy people (control group) were selected. CD34^+ and CD133+/CD34^+ progenitor cells in peripheral blood were counted in the two groups. Results After hemorrhagic stroke 1-7 d, CD34^+ and CD133+/CD34^+ cells in H Group were lower than those in control group (all P 〈 0.05). In the H group, compared with ld, the CD34^+ cells there were sharp decline at 2rid d, CD34+ cells were gradually increased from 3rd d, reached a maximum at 5th d, and then gradually decreased. CD133^+/CD34^+ cells began to rise from 1 d, reached the maximum at 5 d, and then gradually decreased. Conclusions CD34^+ and CD133+/CD34^+ cells in peripheral blood are mobilized at early stage in the patients with hemorrhagic stroke. The changes in number ofCD34^+ and CD133^+/CD34^+ might be a sensitive indicator for early acute hemorrhage. Key words: cerebral hemorrhage; endothelial progenitorcells; CD34^+; CD133+/CD34^+
