Classic works of art are full of metaphors. The film“theRoadHome”is the only poetic realistic film directed by famous director Zhang Yimou in 1999. Its expression form is very much different from the rest. Technique of metaphors are heavily used in the film in the creation of characters, revealing the theme and expressing feelings. This makes the film to be poetically concise and profound and one of the classic works that has received numerous domestic and overseas awards. But few people mention or pay attention to the methods of artistic metaphor of it. This article starts from the literary elements of the characters, plot and environment in the film and analyzes the metaphorical artistic features in order to explore more of the reasons for its success, to help the audience enjoy the film more effectively, to dig up richer connotation and to get a better understanding of movie works and more aesthetic enjoyment.
