At 9a.m. in the morning on August 16th, 2011., Train K0821, loaded with the first passengers, arrived in Shigatse after nearly three hours of its westward journey from Lhasa. The Qinghai- Tibet Railway, also known honorably as ＂the Heaven Road＂, extends another 251 kilometers to one side of Mt. Qomolangina, ending thehistorical idea that no train runs in southwestern Tibet. The travel time from Lhasa to Shigatse has now been shortened from four hours to about three. The main force undertaking the project of the Lhasa-Shigatse Railway has been the CRCC （China Railway Construction Corporation）, which has solved three major world construction problems during the years the Qinghai-Tibet Railway was being built.
