During Japanese occupied period in Shanghai, a large number of new romance novels written by the "Miss Writers" were published in the popular magazines as Wanxiang, Chunqiu, etc. These trivial and delicate romances present Miss Writers' view of love and their ethical ideal which are contrary to the secular lust as well as manifest the modem intellectual women' s pathetic acknowledgement of their emotional fate and their suspicions and fears of modem marriage. These works also reveal the complexity of women liberation movement since the May 4th Movement of 1919.
