Luantan,a school of China's local opera,flourished at the end of Ming Dynasty and the beginning of Qing Dynasty.Absorbing the local culture,it gradually developed into a unique school and was recognized as the "Living Fossil of Chinese Operas".Linqing's Luantan can be traced back in a history spanning more than 270 years.In 1957,Linqing set up the first Luantan opera troupe and Luantan school in China.Then in 1961,the troupe set out from Linqing,and gave performances in Handan,Xingtai,Niangziguan,Weishui,Shaanxi Province,and went back for the celebration of the Spring Festival after performing in Shijiazhuang and Baoding,which are located in Hebei province.They finished the tour after seven days of performance in Linqing's People's Theater.It lasted for a whole month.In a time when entertainment was scarce,Linqing's Luantan made significant contribution to the cultural enjoyment of local people.Now Linqing's Luantan has been enlisted as Linqing city's Intangible Cultural Heritage,and efforts to apply for its inclusion on the list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Shandong province is being made.Loyal fans of Linqing's Luantan value the artistic treasure and its earnest perseverance.
