SHEN Congwen creates a series of characters in his Xiangxi novels,for example maiden character,sailor＇s character and poor men＇s character. The character of poor men is shaped by SHEN Congwen importantly in the 1920s-1930 s. ＂Poor＂includes not only the lack of material life,but also spiritual and emotional loss. Poor men＇s life ideal is insipid and real,but their life is rough because of all aspects of pressure. Their life ideal diverges from their destiny,which hits SHEN Congwen＇s sensitive heart. Poor men＇s misfortune hits it off with SHEN Congwen＇s life experience and causes his deep thinking of life.
