从1928到1936年,中国知识界对中国社会性质、中国社会史基本观点、中国农村社会性质等问题进行了长期的论战。留学生群体与这次论战的起缘有着密切的关系,他们发表了大量的论文、论著,成为这次论战的主要参与者。在论战中,留学生群体在关于中国社会性质、中国社会史、中国农村社会性质等问题上阐述了进步的观点,引导了论战的主流方向。此次论战对于弄清当时的中国社会性质,推动当时的中国革命事业具有重要意义,而留学生群体作为论战的主要参与者,功不可没。

From 1928 to 1936, the intellectuals had been debating on the nature of Chinese society ,the Chinese so-cial history and the nature of Chinese rural community. From the status of the participants, the returned students have great relation to the debates. During this process, they had lots of research papers and treatises published, which present most of the opinion on the polemic. To the main content of the polemic, the returned students elaborated a deeper point on the nature of Chinese society, the Chinese social history and the nature of Chinese rural community, which leaded to the tendency of the debate. This polemic gave great contributions to making it clear what was the nature of Chinese soci-ety, and to the revolutionary cause and the returned students made their contributions.
