Nietzschean Existentialism in the Work of Pei'an Ying and Goh Poh Seng

Both Goh Poh Seng and Pei＇ an Ying are interested in the revaluation of postcolonial transformation and common culture. As they both tend to cast their characters as lonely bearers of existentialism and explorers, they use a number of important Nietzschean themes. In their view of contemporary Singaporean culture as highly nihilistic that is controlled by commercialization and non-authenticity, they prioritize characters that resemble hermits, who refuse to blindly follow the animal instincts and concern themselves with cultural renewal and other for-itself（ existential ）challenges. Both writers also stress the limits of death and humanity by paying attention to the choice of sincerity.
