现代派成长小说的相似性探究——以《儿子与情人》、《天使,望故乡》为例

Analysis of the Similarities between Two Modernist Bildungsromans:A Case Study of Sons and Lovers and Look Homeward,Angel

戴维·赫伯特·劳伦斯的《儿子与情人》与托马斯·沃尔夫的《天使,望故乡》均为英美文学史上重要的成长小说。两部作品均围绕作家的生活经历,展现了两位主人公的迷惘困局与成长历程。然而,这两部作品却在许多方面极为相似。本文从人物塑造、结构安排、爱情主题、语言叙事等多方面入手,着力分析、对比了两者的相似点,并且扼要探讨了两部作品相似性产生的可能原因。尽管劳伦斯与沃尔夫这两位现代派作家在创作中采用了一些相似的技巧和手段,但是两部作品仍然各具独特的艺术魅力。

David Herbert Lawrence＇ s Sons andLovers and Thomas Wolfe＇ s Look Homeward, Angel are two important Bildungsromans in the history of English and American Literature. Centering aroundthe writer＇s life experiences, these two works show the heroes＇s dilemma and confusion in their growth. However, these two works are very similar in many aspects. This paper analyzes and compares the similarities by focusing on characterization, structural arrangements, love theme, language and narrative of the two novels, and briefly discusses the possible reasons for the cause of these similarities. Although Lawrence and Wolfe adopted some similar techniques and devices in their writing, it is undeniable that these two modernist novels still boast their unique artistic charm.
