Missionaries and the Cultural Exchange between Finland and China

中芬文化的交流起步比较晚,发展也比较慢,有别于中国与其他欧洲国家的交流状况。这主要与芬兰本国的政治文化经济的发展有关。传教士在早期中芬文化交流中起了非常重要的作用。芬兰的传教士是最早一批,也是很长时间内唯一一批懂中文,并且长期在中国生活过的芬兰人。芬兰传教士的报告和游记有关中国形象的描述和中国知识的传递,对芬兰人起了早期"启蒙"作用。他们的哲学翻译则向芬兰人打开了认识东方哲学的大门。

Different from the exchange between China and other European countries, the cultural exchange between Finland and China started relatively later and progressed slowly, which arised from Finnish economical, political and cultural situation. Finnish missionaries played a very important role in the early cultural exchange. They were the first group and the only group of Finnish for a long time who knew Chinese and lived a long time in China. Those reports and travels written by Finnish missionaries, which described China＇ s image and spreaded knowledge of China, played the early enlightening role for Finnish. Their philosophical translation also opened the door of Eastern philosophy to Finnish.
