Name and Function of the Bird-shaped Divine Ware Unearthed from Yuchi Temple Site of Mengcheng

蒙城尉迟寺遗址出土的文化遗物中,包括一件形制较为独特的陶制品,研究者多称为"鸟形神器"。通过相关文献记载、考古资料及其他图像资料的比较可知,该器应为粮囷的陶制模型,即"陶囷";陶囷的鸟形装饰、出土位置和相关遗迹表明,该陶囷是史前先民崇拜太阳、进行农业祭祀的礼仪用器。

The pottery vessel with a unique shape unearthed from Yuchi Temple Site,Mengcheng, was generally knowned as theBird-shaped Divine Ware. Based on a comparison with related materials, the author points out that it was a pottery barn, i.e., a pottery model of a barn. According to the bird- shaped decoration, the place where it was excavated and the artefact associated with the find, it can be postulatedthat the barn was a ritual instrument for worshipping the sun and agricultural sacrifice.
