The Historical and Connotative Development of Oberlin-Shansi Memorial School's Spirit

山西铭贤学校是民国时期私立学校的典范,其44年办学过程中蕴育了独特的铭贤精神。铭贤精神是随着铭贤学校的历史发展而不断演进的,在"学以事人"校训的引导下,其内涵以学以事人精神为核心,衍生出真知力行精神与重农事农精神。三种精神作为整体即为铭贤精神,它激励铭贤学子扎根农村、服务社会、报效祖国,令铭贤学校"学以事人"校训寄寓的理想,有了名副其实的意义。

Oberlin- Shansi Memorial School,which won great fame and set a great example for private schools in the Republic of China era,formed its unique spirit（ so called Mingxian Spirit） over its 44- year history. Mingxian Spirit was evolving with the development of Oberlin- Shansi Memorial School. Leaded by its motto- ＂ Learning for service＂,the School has finally shaped up Mingxian Spirit of its own,which took the motto of ＂ Learning for service＂ as the core,and produced some other spirits known as ＂ Learning for practice＂ and ＂ Learning for agricultural devotion＂. United one another,the three spirits constituted Mingxian Spirit which inspired both students and teachers of the School to take root in the rural areas as well as serve the community and our country. And the Spirit,more importantly,made the School＇s ideal,which placed its hope on the motto of ＂ Learning for service＂,true of its name.
