从《大地》的文体特征看赛珍珠的“人桥”作用

Pearl S Buck as“Bridge”from Her Stylistic Features——An Analysis on Lexical Features in The Good Earth

赛珍珠一直被喻为"沟通中西方文化的人桥"。众多相关研究是从文化角度研究赛珍珠如何成功地将中国人民的生活及文化传统介绍给西方读者,而很少对其语言风格展开研究。语言是内容的表现形式,不同的表达方式会引起读者不同的理解。文体特征反映作品的主题和作者的思想。赛珍珠荣获诺贝尔文学奖的作品《大地》中有许多词汇属日常用语,这些词汇与中国农民生活息息相关,非常具有中国特色。赛珍珠不仅通过《大地》的故事情节,而且通过描写故事的语言特色,发挥了促进东西方文化交流的"人桥"作用。

Pearl S Buck is honored as ＂a bridge between China and Western countries＂. Most rele- vant studies focus on how she successfully introduced life of Chinese people and culture of China to West- erners from cultural perspectives while studies on stylistic features are rare. As a matter of fact, the work itself conveys to the readers much information from its way of presenting the tale. The stylistic features reveal the theme of the work and the writer＇s concept. This paper employs stylistic analysis to study lexical features in The Good Earth, which won the Nobel Prize, by means of Wordsmith. It finds that simple daily words are mainly employed, words closely related to Chinese farmers are of high fre- quency and words with local color and the expressions in Chinese style are frequently used. It is not only the story but also the stylistic features that prove the contribution Pearl S Buck made as ＂Bridge＂ be- tween China and Western countries.
