On the lacquered coffins, screen and the silk banner unearthed from the Han Tomb No, 1 at Mawangdui, a tortoiseshell bi-disc and images of jade bi-dics are found. Through careful observations and comparison, the author of this paper discovered that the relations between these hi-discs and the dragons passing through their holes are not always the same, but can be classified into two modes: "arrest" and "movement". The different relations between the dragons and bi-discs corresponded to the different functions of the bi-discs, which were "to console the soul of the death" and "to guide the soul of the death to ascend to the Heaven", showing the meticulous consideration of the tomb designers to the religious and ritual issues and the integration of different beliefs in a single tomb.
