The Essence and Application Value of Laozi's Philosophy

老子《道德经》是一个内涵丰富的思想体系,其哲学精义可用八大命题加以概括:一、设"大""道"以论本体;二、标"道""德"以阐规律;三、举阴阳函盖矛盾;四、以"反动"概括极则;五、称柔弱能胜刚强;六、辨功用兼顾有无;七、重玄览而轻感知;八、为无为而无不治。在漫长的古代社会中,老子思想即应用于治国理政、古代科技、医道养生、用兵之道诸方面,对中国古代文明的发展产生了深刻的影响。

Laozi’s Tao Te Ching is an ideological system with rich connotation. Its philosophical essence can be generalized in eight levels： to discuss the ontology with Torism, to interpret the laws with Torism and Morality, to cover contradictory with Yin and Yang, to summarize minimax criteria with “reactionary”, to believe weakness over strength, to argue function with both “with” and “without”, to emphasize intuition while weakening perception, to govern by doing nothing. In the long ancient society, Laozi’s thoughts were not only applied to state governance, ancient science and technology, health persevering, the use of military force, and so on, but also set great influence on the development of ancient Chinese civilization.
