The Study on English and Chinese Temporal Metaphors from a Cultural Perspective

隐喻是语言的基本特征,也是人类认识世界的方式。时间隐喻作为一种重要的语言现象,承载着浓重的文化信息。英汉两种语言中都有不少的时间隐喻,其隐喻概念既有相似性,也有差异性。文章以隐喻相关理论为指导,从文化视角对比分析英汉时间隐喻的异同点,探究形成这一现象的文化根源,有助于语言学习者准确理解时间隐喻的真正涵义,从而有效地相互交流。

Metaphor is an essential character of the language and also the mean by which man perceives the world.As one of the significant language phenomena, temporal metaphors conceive a lot of cultural information.There are quite a few temporal meta-phors in both Chinese and English, and they have some similarities and differences.Based on the theories of metaphor, the paper has a comparative study of the similarities and differences between English and Chinese temporal metaphors.And finally the paper explores the cultural causes of Chinese and English metaphors, which helps language learners understand the connotation of temporal metaphors exactly and have an effective communication.
