A Study of the Oedipus Complex in“To Helen”

在美国文学史上,以女性之美为题材的小说、戏剧以及诗歌层出不穷。美国浪漫主义运动代表埃德加·爱伦·坡的作品大部分主题不仅歌颂女性之美,更用美女的死亡表达自身对女性最真挚的爱。运用弗洛伊德的精神层次理论分析爱伦·坡的诗歌《致海伦》中体现的俄狄浦斯情结,可拓宽后现代读者对本首诗歌的审美视野。

In American literature history, plenty of novels, plays and poetry focused on the subject of feminine beauty. The repre- sentative of American romanticism, who is Edgar ALlan Poe, wrote most of his work to praise the beauty of women. Moreover, he ex- pressed his sincere love for women with an ending of a beauty＇ s death. In this paper, it endeavors to analyze the Oedipus complex in “To Helen”, which is a well-known poem written by Allan Poe, with the application of Freud＇ s spiritual hierarchy theory, it aims at providing a new approach to appreciate this poem for post-modern readers.
