《野草在歌唱》渗透着权力的检查机制中凝视的统治和作用。萨特和福柯关于凝视机制的理论表明,玛丽作为未婚女人、白人和穷人,在观者眼光带来的压力下不停地被造就、控制,摇摇欲坠。在全景敞视机制下,自我监视,丧失自我以致精神分裂,身心枯萎。在经历了长期的自我斗争后精神支离破碎,最后面对死亡的惩罚。
The function and mechanism of gaze theory is contained in The Grass Is Singing. The gaze theory of Sartre’s and Foucault’s shows that as an unmarried, white, poor woman, Mary is continuously created, controlled under the pressure of the observer’s gaze, falling on the verge of collapse. Under the influence of panopticism, Mary becomes the observer of herself, loses herself and goes into schizophrenia. After the long self struggle, Mary’s body and mind both are withered and fragmented, and finally faces the death punish-ment.
