Zhu Shenghao＇s Translation of Shakespeare＇s Plays and Its Revisions

朱生豪翻译的31个莎士比亚剧本中，除4个历史剧外，其余27个剧本于1947年由世界书局以《莎士比亚戏剧全集》（1—3卷）出版，此版本基本上是朱生豪的原译。1954年作家出版社以《莎士比亚戏剧集》出版了朱生豪所译的全部31部莎剧。作家版《戏剧集》虽然不是“校订本”，有不少人也以为这就是朱生豪的原译，但实际上编辑出版时也对原译文做过不少改动。当今市场上的各种朱译莎剧版本基本上都是经过校订的文本。修改本和校订本虽然弥补了朱生豪原译本中的一些缺疵和疏漏，是对原译本的提升和完善，但也产生了另外一些缺憾，如语言风格的不一致，一些地方改动的不尽合理以及“过度修改”以至影响了朱译本原有的韵味和表现力等。本文以一些具体的译例分析了原译本和经修改、校订过的版本的短长。并提出了对新的修订本的基本要求。

In 1947, The World Book Co. , Ltd. published Complete Works of Shakespeare＇ s Plays （ Voh 1 - 3 ）, which contains 27 of the 31 Shakespeare＇ s plays translated by Zhu Shenghao （ except the 4 historical plays）. This version is Zhu Shenghao＇ s original translation. In 1954, the Writers Publishing House published Collection of Shakespeare＇ s Plays, in which all the 31 plays translated by Zhu were included. This version was not indicated to be a recension, and thus mistaken by many readers as Zhu＇ s original translation. Actually, the editors of the Writers Publishing House made quite a number of revisions and made this edition discord with Zhu＇ s original translation. In today＇ s book market, most publication of Zhu＇ s translation of Shakespeare＇ s plays are recensions. They made some reasonable corrections and improved Zhu＇ s translation to a certain extent. But on the other hand, their revisions gave rise to some side defects： the inconsistency of language styles between the revisers and Zhu, and among the revisers themselves as well. Some revisers tend to over - mod- ify the original translation, as a result, their efforts more or less spoil the lingering charms and expressiveness of Zhu＇ s o- riginal translation.
