On curriculum design of the national standards for undergraduate English-major students: Review and reflections

本文从历史和现实的角度探讨了英语专业本科课程体系的改革与构建,首先梳理了英语专业课程体系的历史沿革,总结了课程体系设置的重构所面临的现实问题,然后讨论了新形势下英语专业课程体系建设应遵循的原则、应有的体系构架与内容和需要突出的优势特点。在此基础上指出了新课程体系建设所面临的多重挑战,认为国家标准课程体系需要充分体现英语专业的学科特质和人文品格,强调在建设过程中应该反思历史、直面现实、放眼未来。

This paper explores reform and restructuring of national curriculum design for undergraduate Englishmajor students. It first reviews the evolutional changes in relevant curricula by referring to cases at different historical stages. Then it analyzes the present situations that challenge the curriculum design currently undertaken and discusses the principles to follow, content to cover, and features to highlight for the new curriculum design. By pointing out the possible difficulties to overcome, this paper finally emphasizes that the new upcoming curriculum is to represent the disciplinary advantages and humanistic features of English education, and this requires us to reflect on its history, face up to reality and look ahead into the future.
