The "Zinoviev Letter" was a 1924 letter that was allegedly sent from Grigori Zinoviev, president of the Presidium of the Executive Committee of the Communist International , to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Great BritairL The letter was published in the Daily Mail four days before the 1924 General Election and contributed to the defeat of MacDonald and the Labour Party. Appeared at a sensitive time in relations between Britain and the Soviet Union, this letter was closely linked to events such as the "red terror", elections as well as the Anglo- Soviet trade agreement of 8 August. However, the letter was later proved forged.
