Syntactic Calculus of Descriptions and Its Ontological and Epistemological Significance

罗素的摹状词理论改变了我们对语言的理解,让我们认识到语言在本质上不是表征性的。通过对摹状词理论的辖域问题进行深入的句法分析,探讨满足限制性条件的摹状词的句法功能,从而达到对于摹状词的语义解释。这样的语义解释让我们看到摹状词的意义并不取决于所对应的指称对象,其意义来自于摹状词的句法演算过程。在这个过程中,既避免了不必要的个体对象的本体论预设,又凸显出了句法层面上抽象个体对象的句法功能。在此基础上展开对于命题构成成分的本体论解释,并思考命题生成的知识论意义。

Syntactic analysis of scoping issue in Russell's description theory makes it possible to address the syntactic function of descriptions that satisfy the constraint condition,which results in semantic interpretation of descriptions. Descriptions do not depend on reference for their meaning,but they get interpreted through syntactic calculus. Syntactic calculus does not only help to avoid ontological assumption of individual object but also highlights syntactic function of individual object. On the basis of syntactic analysis,there continues the discussion of ontological issue of proposition constituents and epistemological significance of proposition generation.
