Discipline and Punishment in the Power Network—— Interpretation of The Mill on the Floss

《弗洛斯河上的磨坊》是乔治·艾略特的早期作品之一,以维多利亚时代的英国乡村生活为背景。运用福柯的权力理论,分析阐释小说主人公玛吉在话语权力、规训权力和知识权力交织而成的权力网络中所经受的情感体验与心路历程。这些权力都对玛吉实施了规训,但在权力实施的过程中,玛吉并非完全被动,而是行使着自己的微观权力,从而呈现出权力的互动。

The Mill on the Floss is one of George Eliot＇s early works. It takes English countryside life as the background. From the perspective of Michel Foucault＇s theory of power,the author aims to interpret Maggie＇s emotional experience and spiritual journey in the power network consisting of discourse power,discipline power and knowledge power. All these powers implement discipline and influence on Maggie,but Maggie is not completely passive in the process. She exercises micro-power in her unique way. Consequently there appears interaction in the relation of powers.
