In this edition, I use the classic func- tional model of the basal ganglia circuitry, which was originally described in the late 1980S(Albin et al. , 1989), as a prime example for what has been used for major developments in the research of neural networks for processing movement, particularly emphasising its use for understanding the pathogenesis of Parkinson' s disease (PD).
