Writers of Leningrad literature School of the 1960s and 70s generally encountered marginalization, unable to publish their works or being forced into exile. They were eccentric and defiant, totally different from the traditional image of Soviet writers. Their creation not only inherited features of the "Petersburg text" originated from Pushkin, but also was influenced by America literature. Neither is it similar to the mainstream socialist realism literature, nor does it belong to the dissident literature. Their unique artistic expression finally gained recognition, forming a unique Leningrad literature school.
