Escaping and Returning——A Comparasion of “The Summer Before the Dark”and “Runaway”

莱辛的《天黑前的夏天》和门罗的《逃离》讲述了两位女主人公由于觉醒的自我意识而逃离家庭的故事。她们在逃离的路途上经历了完全不同的风景,但最终都选择了回家。比较这两部相隔近三十年的小说,寻找促使两位女性共同走上回家之路的原因,可以看到两代妇女对待家庭和情感需求的异同。

Kate,in Doris Lessing’ s “The Summer before the Dark”,and Cara,in Alice Munro’ s “Runaway”, both chose to leave home and come back after experienced what they came through during the journey.Comparing the two novels,one coming almost thirty years ear-lier,we can see why they decided to come back home again and the similarity and difference of the two generation females’ attitude to family and emotion.
