Chinese American writer Lisa See regards herself as the representative of China in America and states that China in her novels is real, even to Chinese. The paper queries her statement and points out the two images of China in her novels, that is, Uncivi- lized China and Red China. Besides, Chinese in her novels still turn out to be "the self". Clearly, Lisa See' s novels, with China as its background, are not representative.
