Tradition and Administration: Liang Dingfen and Fenghu Academy

丰湖书院是晚近岭南名儒梁鼎芬书院掌教生涯的开始,也是他毕生从事藏书事业的起点。由于梁鼎芬孜孜不倦的努力和广东学林的支持,丰湖书藏以比较完备的图书制度、丰富的文集和地方志、开放式借阅以及公众式管理模式在广东书院中独树一帜。丰湖书藏不仅对惠州地方文风的形成有重要的影响,而且也成为研究近代中国图书馆史的重要文化参考。

Liang Dingfen was a famous scholar in Lingnan in the late Qing Dynasty. Fenghu Academy was the beginning of his teaching career and also the beginning of his lifelong career in library. Because of Liang Dingfen＇ s tireless efforts and the academic support from Guangdong Province, Fenghu library became unique in Guangdong academies for its relatively complete library system, rich corpus and regional chronicles, open library, and public management mode. Fenghu library not only had important influence on the formation of Huizhou＇ s culture style, but also becomes an important cultural reference for the research of history of modem Chinese libraries.
