True Nature of a So-called Ambiguous Sentence Pattern

有人认为"V2+的+是+N"是多义句式,意思是它是句式,并且多义。但是,其本来面目是:既不是句式,也不多义,只能算是一个短语格式。属于这一格式的某些短语具有多义性,但原因不是这一格式固有多义性,而是其中的N词语有时具有施事和受事两种语法意义。当其中的N词语具有两种语法意义时,属于这一格式的短语是多义短语;而当其中的N词语没有两种语法意义时,属于这一格式的短语便不是多义短语。

Some people think that ＂V2 ＋ de＋ be ＋ N＂ is an ambiguous sentence pattern, which means it is a sentence pattern, and am- biguous. The true nature of it, however, is that it is not a sentence pattern, and no ambiguity. It can only be seen as an abstract phrase format. Some phrases belong to the format which has ambiguity, but not for the reason that this format has inherent ambiguity, but that the N item of it sometimes has two kinds of grammatical meaning： the traveler and the receiver. When the N item of it has two kinds of grammatical meaning, the phrase belonging to the format is an ambiguous phrase ; when the N item of it has no two kinds of grammatical meaning, the phrase belonging to the format is not an ambiguous phrase.
