Internationalizing“International Communication”:Critical Reflections and A New Point of Departure

摘要 国际传播并不太"国际化"。发源于冷战格局,国际传播长期被视为美国传播在海外的思想延伸或经验应用。许多非西方学者以美国主义的片面世界观为依归,而且视之为当然。我们一方面必须拒斥这种"美国放大就是世界"的观点;一方面必须反对"文化民族主义",即是假借文化无法兼容,或以文化优越感为由,而一笔勾销美国或西方的学术成果。"国际传播"若要国际化,绝不能落入偏狭的泥淖,而必须秉持开明的世界主义为起点。 International communication is not very'internationalized'.Growing out of the Cold War context,the field has been taken as conceptual extension or empirical application of U.S.communication.Worse yet,much of the non-west has been socialized to adopt truncated versions of Pax Americana's notion of international communication.We must reject both America-writ-large views of the world and self-defeating mirror images that reject anything American or western on the grounds of cultural incompatibility or even cultural superiority.The point of departure for internationalizing'international communication'must be precisely the opposite of parochialism-namely,a spirit of cosmopolitanism.
