This paper analyzes the reflection of New Historicism in John Steinbeck's masterpiece The Grapes of Wrath. Set under the background of the Great Depression in 1930s, The Grapes of Wrath illustrates the interaction between text and history, subversion and containment of "Western Concept" and "American Dream", negotiation and communication of "Dust-bowl Migration", as well as construction and development of historical significance. Thus, it can be proved that this novel was a great epic and John Steinbeck was a great writer with humanistic compassion.
