A Study of Hedges Used by Advanced EFL Learners in TEM-8 Writing

摘要基于英语报纸社论与高级英语学习者专八作文中模糊限制语的使用差异进行研究。从总体上看,高级英语学习者专八作文中模糊限制语的使用要多于报纸社论,但在不同类别或具体某些模糊限制语的使用上却存在使用不足等问题。本研究不仅拓宽模糊限制语的研究范围,同时也帮助英语学习者在写作中能正确使用英语模糊限制语,为英语教学提供更好的借鉴,从而使教师更有效地帮助学生进行正确的作文写作。 This paper studies the differences in the use of hedges between English newspaper editorials and advanced EFL learners＇ writings in TEM-8. The result shows that on the whole, hedges occur more frequently in EFL learners＇ TEM-8 writing than in English newspaper editorials. However, EFL learners have deficiency in the use of different sorts of hedges or some specific ones. The reasons for all these phenomena are discussed. This study not only broadens the scope of the study, but also helps English learners understand and use hedges correctly in English writing. What＇s more, it can provide reference for English teachers to guide students to proper English writing.
