2014年8月30日,阿尔瓦罗·西扎在中国大陆的首个作品淮安实联水上办公楼正式启用。启用仪式后,《世界建筑》主编张利访谈西扎,实联水上办公楼项目合作者卡洛斯·卡斯塔涅拉也参与对谈。张利：第一个问题是关于现代性的。在经过一轮的快速城市化,特别是＂新城＂热潮之后,现代性与现代主义目前在中国大陆受到越来越多的质疑。人们在讨论关于现代的焦虑、现代的幻像,以及现代的破坏。

ZI1ANG l,i （Z）： The first question is about modernity. Modernity is now put to doubt in China's Mainland, after the last wave of ＂new town＂ boom. People are talking about the anxiety of the modern, the fallacy of the modern, and the destruction of the modern Yet it is through works like yours that people, not matter how reluctantly, have to acknowledge the poetics of the modern. Is modernity a false construct, or is there a better modernity different than the concept we knew？
