The key building complex of libraries, central teaching buildings and university history museums, is serving as the new business card for the University of Macao (UM). The complex presents an island-style ecological environment known as "Lingnan region of rivers and lakes" , which highlights spatial integration at both micro and macro levels. To be specific, the design puts campus buildings such as atrium, Lingnan courtyards and European courtyards in good harmony with the environment, including lakes, islands and central water landscapes. The design features spatial variation stemming from traditional Lingnan building complex, as well as Southern European architectural form expression originating from classical aesthetics. With these two traditional architectural concepts integrated into a whole creatively, UM' s new campus presents a distinction of inheritance and innovation.
