Divided into five parts, this article demonstrates the intellectual development embodied in the process from design to completion of the Ke House, which can be seen as a second 'prototype' of the idea of 'free structure' embodied in the Brick House in Chunxiao Town. The design attempts to open up an alternative way of structural organization and explores the possibility of integrating light into structure. The entire interior of the Ke House is permeated with consistent refraction, and only for a limited period of the day can the light penetrate the interior without refraction. The Ke House also adopted a 'structureless' approach, which makes it possible for wind, light and water to seep through. Such natural elements, carefully led into the building and organized accordingly, have proceeded to form new abstract forms including glass slit, truncated pathways and hollow beams. The Ke House, like the Brick House, comes with an unquestionable inward-looking tendency. The special 'stripes of light', however, try to establish an abstract, landscape connection with the outside world, thus transforming from a 'limited interior' to an 'unlimited interior'.
