Landscape architecture education in Germany has a long tradition. From the beginning in 1824, when Peter Joseph Lenne founded the first school in Potsdam, the profession records a continuous development. Today 15 universities and colleges offer study programs in landscape architecture. The European “Bologna Reform” process brings radical changes in the education system. Bachelor and master degrees replace the traditional title “Diplomingenieur”, which stood long time for the special linkage between design and technical skills. Now the Federation of German Landscape Architects and other organizations try to influence the process to care about a high education standard and a broad professional knowledge of graduates.
