The Xinsidui tombs are located on the Mozi hill southwest of the Danjiangkou reservoir in Xichuan county, Henan province, a place connecting southwest Henan and northwest Hubei. From July to September 2010, under the instructions of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage and the Cultural Relics Protection Office in South-to-North Water Diversion Project of the Henan Provincial Bureau of Cultural Relics, entrusted by the Henan Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, an emergent excavation was carried out by the Department of Archaeology and Museology of Nankai University at the Xinsidui tombs. The excavation is also part of the National South-to-North Water Diversion Project at Danjiangkou reservoir. Forty-eight tombs dating to the Warring States, Qin and Han period have been excavated. The current paper is a report about two well preserved tombs M11 and M23. Both are rectangular in shape built with earth(stones) and a vertical pit. M11 is furnished with one coffin and two outer coffins and M23 with one coffin and one outer coffin. Forty-eight burial objects made in pottery, bronze or iron are excavated. M23 probably dates to the Qin dynasty or early Han dynasty. M11 probably dates to the late Western Han. The discovery of these two tombs provides new archaeological data for studying Han dynasty burial customs and culture in southwest Henan.
