The current paper retraces the agenda of the Venice Architecture Biennale of 2014 in historical perspective - that is its adherence to the belief in reductive, "fundamentals" of a globalized "flat" world devoid of regional diversity- to the first Architecture Biennale directed by the Italian postmodern, or anti-modern, architect Paolo Portoghesi, With the exception of Massimiliano Fuksas's Biennale of 2000, the Biennales have tended to promote the idea of international style "star architecture" oblivious to what should be the real concerns of architecture in a globalizing world: enhancing what remains of its ecological, soda] and cultural quality.
